Valve body testing

Valve Body Testing

Valve body testing, on this site, means bench testing: solenoids, sensors and valve body assemblies are tested on a bench for oil flow, pressure stability, shift response and sealing. This page explains those four checks and how to ask for them.

The four bench-test checks

The company process documentation names one bench-test step for solenoids, sensors and valve body assemblies, and it names four checks inside that step. Oil flow checks that fluid moves through the passages as intended. Pressure stability checks that pressure holds rather than drifting. Shift response checks that switching happens as commanded. Sealing checks that the assembly does not leak. A valve body that passes all four is in a different position from one that passes an electrical check alone, because the working faults in a transmission are hydraulic as well as electrical.

Electronic and hydraulic together

Bench testing is described as both electronic and hydraulic testing. That pairing matters: a solenoid can pass an electrical test while failing hydraulically, and a valve body can look sound electrically while leaking at a gasket or a bore. Ask whether the bench test in your order covers both sides, and whether it covers the solenoid alone or the solenoid fitted in the valve body assembly.

Testing and the repair sequence

Testing sits inside the repair sequence, not outside it. Defect screening comes first and removes worn, deformed, fatigued or out-of-tolerance core parts. Cleaning and wear-part replacement follow. Sleeve repair is made where a bore is worn. Bench testing then verifies the result. A test result is therefore a check on the repaired or supplied unit, not a substitute for screening or repair.

How to ask for testing in an inquiry

Ask for bench testing by its four items, not by a general request for testing. Name oil flow, pressure stability, shift response and sealing, and ask whether the test covers your item alone or fitted in the assembly.
