Valve body solenoid

Valve Body Solenoid

A valve body solenoid is an electrically controlled valve that regulates oil flow and pressure inside the valve body. This page introduces the three functions a buyer will meet most often: pressure control, shift, and lock-up.

What a valve body solenoid does

Inside a valve body, solenoids convert electrical commands into hydraulic action. They open, close or meter oil passages so that pressure rises or falls, a shift takes place, or a lock-up clutch engages. When a solenoid responds slowly, sticks or leaks, the symptom is usually felt as a shift or pressure problem rather than as a single electrical fault, which is why solenoid checks belong on the bench test alongside the valve body itself.

Three functions, three pages

  • Pressure control solenoid: regulates line pressure and is described in company materials as the EPC solenoid. See the pressure control solenoid page.
  • Shift solenoid: controls shift valves and gear changes. See the shift solenoid page.
  • TCC solenoid, also called the lock-up solenoid: controls torque converter lock-up. See the TCC solenoid page.

Each function has its own page so that a buyer can inquire about one function without mixing it with the others.

Solenoid or solenoid valve kit

A single solenoid inquiry suits a single known fault. A solenoid valve kit suits a buyer who needs the solenoid set for a valve body job, for example when several solenoids are replaced together or when a kit is stocked for repeat work. The solenoid valve kit page and its selection guide explain how to choose between those two routes.

How solenoids are checked

Bench testing for solenoids covers electronic and hydraulic checks: oil flow, pressure stability, shift response and sealing. A solenoid that passes an electrical check but fails a hydraulic check still leaves the working fault unaddressed, because the working fault in a transmission is hydraulic as well as electrical, so ask whether both sides were checked. Ask for bench testing by those four items when you inquire.

What to confirm before ordering

This site does not publish a solenoid fitment list. Confirm fitment details before ordering, and describe the solenoid function you need rather than assuming one function fits every valve body.

Share the solenoid function, the quantity and your target date. Ask for MOQ and lead time for your order, and confirm packaging and warranty before ordering. Warranty is at least 1 year.
