Spool valve — inside the valve body

Spool Valve Inside a Transmission Valve Body

A spool valve is the valve that moves inside a valve bore in a transmission valve body, opening and closing oil passages as it travels. This page explains the spool valve from inside the valve body, not as a separate hydraulic product.

What a spool valve does

Inside a valve body, each spool valve slides within its bore to direct oil to the right passage at the right moment. Its position decides which passages are open, which are closed, and therefore which gear change or lock-up action follows. The spool valve and its bore work as a pair: the valve cannot control oil precisely if the bore it moves in is worn, and a sound bore cannot compensate for a valve that sticks or moves sluggishly.

Bore wear and spool valve behaviour

When a bore wears, oil leaks past the spool valve and pressure control suffers, even though the valve itself may look unchanged. The symptom then belongs to the valve function — a shift, pressure or lock-up fault — while the cause sits in the bore. That is why bore condition should be established during inspection, and why the documented response to a worn bore is sleeve repair rather than polishing alone. The valve bore page covers the bore, and the sleeve repair page covers the service.

Spool valves and solenoids together

Spool valves are moved by hydraulic force that solenoids regulate. A shift, pressure or lock-up fault can therefore sit at the solenoid, at the spool valve, or at the bore, and the three must be investigated together. For that reason, ask whether bench testing checked the assembly as a combined result across oil flow, pressure stability, shift response and sealing, rather than as isolated part checks.

What this page is not

This page does not present the spool valve as a standalone hydraulic product for general industrial use. It covers the spool valve only as the valve inside a transmission valve body, which is the meaning it carries in the company parts list.

A spool valve inquiry should therefore be made as a valve body inquiry: name the valve body item, describe the fault and the bore condition as far as you know them, and confirm fitment details before ordering. Share the quantity and your target date, ask for MOQ and lead time for your order, and confirm packaging and warranty before ordering. Warranty is at least 1 year.
