What the cover does
The valve body cover closes the valve body assembly and, with its gasket, keeps oil inside the passages. Every opening of the cover is also a sealing decision, because the assembly must be resealed soundly before it returns to service.
Cover, gasket and sealing surface together
Cover sealing depends on three things at once: the cover itself, the cover gasket, and the sealing surface it mates with. In the documented repair sequence, sealing surfaces are refinished where needed to reduce leak risk, and sealing is then checked on the bench together with oil flow, pressure stability and shift response. A cover inquiry should therefore mention all three, not the cover alone.
Cover work in repair
When a valve body is opened for repair, the cover gasket is part of the scope to agree in advance. A repair inquiry should state whether gaskets, including the cover gasket, are included in the repair scope, so that the scope is agreed before work starts. The valve body gasket page covers gaskets generally, and the valve body sealing page covers sealing as a system.
